"E-Invoice" denotes the electronic process of documenting each transaction. With the comprehensive adoption of electronic invoicing, there will be no requirement to preserve physical receipts anymore. Instead, all transaction records will be securely stored in the LHDN database. During the annual tax return filing, eligible expenses will be automatically reconciled in the system, removing the necessity for taxpayers to input them manually.
As outlined in Budget 2024, the Prime Minister has suggested that the initial phase of mandatory e-invoicing will kick off in August 2024. The objective is to fully enforce the e-invoicing policy by July 2025, which is 18 months earlier than the previously estimated timeline.
Details of the e-invoice implementation schedule are as follows:
Targeted Taxpayers | Implementation Date | |
---|---|---|
Stage 1 | Companies with a turnover of RM100 million and above | 01/08/2024 |
Stage 2 | Companies with a turnover of RM25 million and above | 01/01/2025 |
Stage 3 | All businesses | 01/07/2025 |

The implementation of e-invoices in Malaysia is set to transform business practices and contribute to the nation's economic advancement. This innovation is poised to enhance operational efficiency, generate cost savings for businesses, and contribute to overall economic prosperity. Enterprises adopting e-invoices position themselves as leaders in embracing modern technologies. Through the digitization of invoices, businesses can streamline operations, reduce paperwork, and enhance the precision of transaction records.
To make the switch to e-invoicing smoother, the Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (IRBM) has created two ways to send e-invoices:
*Portal : MyInvois Portal is a web-based portal that allows businesses to generate and submit invoices individually or upload them in bulk. This method is ideal for small businesses with a low volume of transactions.
*API: API integration allows businesses to connect their existing ERP system directly with the IRB's system, enabling automated e-invoice transmission. This method is suitable for large businesses with a high volume of transactions. There are three different types of API model:
- Connect your business's ERP system directly to MyInvois.
- Use a Peppol service provider.
- Use a non-Peppol technology provider.
Choosing the Right Method
The best method for your business will depend on your specific needs and transaction volume. If you have a small business with a low volume of transactions, the MyInvois Portal is a simple and affordable option. However, if you have a large business with a high volume of transactions, API integration is a more efficient and scalable solution.
